A new species of the genus Pseudoplectania (Sarcosomataceae, Pezizales) was collected on wood in a tropical rainforest located in Luepa, Canaima National Park, Gran Sabana, BolĂvar State, Venezuela. Species of the genus Pseudoplectania are characterized by having a deep cup shaped sessile or stipitate apothecia, covered by coiled or twisted hairs; J- ascus containing 8 globose, smooth, hyaline ascospores. The new species can be distinguished from the rest of the species in the genus by having brown apothecia and ornamented ascospores. Currently, nine species are recognized in the genus Pseudoplectania, but just two P. melaena (Fr.) Sacc. y P. nigrella (Pers.) Fuckel have brown to black apothecia. Ornamented ascospores have not been previously described in the genus. Log in to add this item to your schedule
