World-wide, taxonomic status of genus Euphorbia has been a subject of controversy since its description by Linnaean in 1753. This is because taxonomists are not in agreement with regards to the composition of the genus. Here, we present a comprehensive report on the available species in Nigeria (West Africa). Based on the observations of both the herbarium and living materials of the thirty six previously recognized species, we recognized thirty eight species of the genus. Some of the described species are of doubtful status probably as a result of considerable overlap in key morphological features employed in the segregation of the taxa. Usage, phenology, morphology and anatomy of the species are discussed. Log in to add this item to your schedule
