Economic Botany Section Zaidi, Mudassir [1]. Detection of biological activites of some medicinal plants of Pakistan. Three medicinal plants of Quetta, Pakistan, known for their ethnopharmacological uses in the folk medicine, were checked for their biological activities. Acroptilon repens (Linn.) DC.(Asteraceae) has been used for blood purification and stomach diseases, Vitex negundo L.(Verbenaceae) used as pain killer for stomachache and for eye diseases. Onosma hispida Wall. ex. G. Don being used as laxative. The ethanolic crude extract obtained from 2 kg of each species was fractioned by solvent-solvent partition with hexane, ethyl acetate, chloroform, methanol, butanol and water. Crude extracts and all fractions were screened for their antibacterial, antifungal, leshmanicidal and cytotoxic activites. All crude extract and some fractions were found to be active and showed moderate to significant certain activity either antibacterial, antifungal, leshmanicidal or cytotoxicity.
